Welcome to Breonna’s Garden
EyeJack invites relevant partners to build a historic memorial in Augmented Reality, created in collaboration with Breonna Taylor’s sister Ju’Niyah Palmer. This transportive experience is dedicated to the beauty and soulfulness of Breonna Taylor.
The project will debut at the Tribeca Film Festival NYC in June 2021, at a series of outdoor installations, and worldwide as part of an international wake experience.

We hold this space in honor of her life, taken too soon and senselessly on March 13, 2020.
In this unique and safe space, we invite the public to enter Breonna’s Garden virtually to process grief through shared messages of love, loss, truth, and hope.
We honor by reminding one another of our shared humanity, enabled by new yet familiar technology.

MEMORIES.
The experience begins with the app, which opens to a splash page that reads Breonna's Garden
Upon pressing enter, a short film montage featuring memories of Breonna and her family will play. The short film is edited in time to her favourite song, “Everything” by Mary J. Blige
After the video, the screen switches to AR view.
FIND A QUIET PLACE.
A floating message appears:
Please find a quiet space. A space where you feel comfortable to share your feelings. Please be sure to leave a bit of walking room around you. Tap on the floor when you are ready to begin.
[The user taps on the floor and a virtual garden begins to grow on the ground around them. A narrator begins.. ]
Ju’Niyah’s voice:
Breonna loved bringing people together and uplifting the community. Thank you for being here.
ENTER SACRED SPACE
Butterflies emerge from the garden, glimmering and radiant. GRADUALLY, standing before you is a luminous, life-like monument of Breonna.

GIVING VOICE.
Ju’Niyah’s voice:
Breonna’s Garden is a sacred space for anyone who wants to share a message of hope for Breonna's family. Or, a message in remembrance of someone they miss. The shimmering lights you see are messages from other visitors. Move closer to the lights to hear their message.
[ White butterflies will float around Breonna. When the user is within proximity to the butterfly a voice recording will be activated. After playing a message, Ju’Niyah continues. The first messages in the app will be curated by the Palmer family and will feature their invited guests ]
Ju’Niyah's voice:

[ User is prompted to tap ‘Yes’ or ‘No’]

Press and hold record when you’re ready to begin.
Let go of the button when you’ve finished.
[To ensure the safety of the experience, all messages will be uploaded to a server and moderated. Only positive messages will find their way into Breonna’s Garden. Once you’ve shared your message a small butterfly will float away from you and reposition itself near Breonna. If you walk over to your glowing butterfly you can listen to your message.]

MY BIG SISTER.
[A volumetric video capture of Ju'Niyah appears walking circles around Breonna. For the first time it is revealed to the audience that the narrator's voice is Breonna’s sister.]
Ju'Niyah:
Sharing takes courage. Thank you for adding your light. I'd like to share something with you, too.
Ju'Niyah:
Breonna was my big sister and my best friend. (Juniyah continues to tell her story, describing her fondest memories of her sister).
SPEAK IN FLOWERS.
Top 3D artists such as Render Goddess have been tapped to render Breonna. Detailed facial expressions, subtle animation, and the adoption of multiple outfits selected by AR Fashion Week’s Lady Phe will round out a meaningful experience.
As users listen to recorded messages, new outfits that express who Breonna was in life will join users within their intimate, virtual space. Breonna is presented holding her favorite flower, a tulip.

FURTHER DEVELOPMENT.
Our project is currently in development. Our further development includes:
Adding facial expression animation and improving Breonna’s standing animation
Designing a series of outfits for Breonna that reflect different aspects of her life i.e. her paramedic uniform, her favourite dinner dress, a dress by her favourite designer.
Every time the user listens to a message Breonna’s outfit will change.
When the user has finished recording, a burst of petals will flutter into the garden and their message will appear as a new butterfly.
A database will be established for moderating and curating recorded messages
Recording Ju’Niyah’s audio narration and performance as a volumetric video hologram
ABOUT THE COLLABORATION.
For many months our Producer and Director, Lady PheOnix, has been in contact with Ju’Niyah Palmer and her family to discuss this project. Much of the creative direction has been informed by Ju’Niyah who described Breonna’s love for flowers, butterflies, and music. The videos that are showcased at the beginning of the experience will also be provided by Ju’Niyah. The process for this collaboration has been slow and respectful. We want this experience to foster a safe space for sharing and processing grief.

ABOUT THE CREATORS.
LADY PHE: Producer + Director
Lady PheOnix is a leading voice for contemporary digital art and culture providing an essential platform for the art and artists of the of our time. She is a curator of contemporary art and a passionate producer of creative works and events at the intersection of art and technology. She amplifies the work of artists through her virtual galleries, @yesuniverse.art and @universecontemporary. As a creative producer she is deeply interested in the link between human connection and virtual beings. Lady PheOnix was selected for Athens Biennale 2021 for AIYA. Inspired by The Picture of Dorian Gray, AIYA is not your typical virtual human. She isn’t an Instagram model nor a "smart" assistant. She doesn't exist to sell products or make your life more efficient. AIYA was designed to explore the concept of heightened humanity from a lens often ignored in popular culture.
SUTU: Creative + Tech Director
Dr. Stuart ‘Sutu’ Campbell uses art and technology in new ways to tell stories. He is passionate about social justice, community development, and youth mentorship. He has created VR documentaries, including ; Inside Manus (Venice FF, 2017) - where he transformed audio interviews with asylum seekers imprisoned at the Manus detention Centre into as a series of VR paintings, Mind at War (Sundance New Frontier selection,2017) - a collaboration with a young US war Veteran who suffered from PTSD and homelessness, and Future Dreaming (Tribeca2019, UFH Summit 2020) a collaboration with four young Aboriginal artists from Western Australia. Sutu holds an Honorary Doctorate of Digital Media from Central Queensland University, is a 2017 Sundance Fellow and is the co-founder of EyeJack an Augmented Reality Company (Winner Best AR, AWE 2017).
